To get a couple to behave “naturally” in front of the camera, have fun with them. A natural exchange between two people, captured in the moment it matters, can overcome almost any awkward pose, background imperfection, or other conceptual flaw.

TRADITION

modern vows, rustic sensibilities

As we’ve discussed, applying a traditional pose to a same-sex couple is not always advised. When used thoughtfully, however, a traditional pose can work beautifully and can highlight the authenticity of the moment and the relationship of the couple.

These two brides planned a traditional, white wedding with all of the trimmings at the Webster Barn in Vermont. In keeping with their rustic theme, they rented an antique truck to serve as a lemonade stand for refreshments. Applying this traditional pose—with one partner sitting on the lap of the other—works for this couple because of their body types, personalities, and comfort with public affection.
